another personal project you say?
a few months ago i did a photography project called our world | oceans apart with my friend, deb schwedhelm and i loved doing that project so much! ive always wanted to do a 365 or a 52 week project but i just have such a hard time sticking with it, no matter how hard i try (i may have attempted and failed once or twice!). doing a photo a day with deb made sticking to it super easy because i knew she was shooting too! i found myself looking forward to seeing what she captured and how different or similar our images would be each day! it was fun and very inspiring!
not long after that i was talking with my friend, kirsty larmour, about how inspiring it was to do a project like that with a friend and how having someone else shooting at the same time helped keep me motivated and shooting everyday… there and then, the idea was born to do something together in the new year so here it is! in this moment!
the idea is to take time each day to capture one moment from our day. something that made us smile. something we want to remember. just real moments from our everyday lives! we have been online friends since 2009 but we have never actually met in person. we live very different lives in very different places… im australian living in a villa in bali and kirsty is british living in an apartment in the a busy capital city in abu dhabi! we are both mothers to girls. we are both business owners. our lives are busy and we want to take a month to slow down and capture moments that mean something.
next was working out the logistics… i really loved the idea of shooting in january so i can remember all the places we would be exploring over the holidays and time spent with friends visiting from australia. although i wanted to shoot everyday, i knew didnt really want to blog every day or even every week for that matter… i wanted to truly experience every moment of our holidays and kirsty felt the same way so we decided to take photos for the whole month of january but share the images in february in weekly posts!
i love the way the project has unfolded! i have been so wrapped up in the holidays that ive often downloaded my card every week or two and i love that im just now looking back at the images, editing favourites and choosing what i want to share! its like im enjoying those january moments all over again which is what its all about!
in this moment | week one | 01.01.14 to 07.01.14
friends reunited | audrey and layla have been friends since they were born! her family arrived new years eve to spend the month of january with us! we took the girls to get mani pedis and out for a special girls lunch. we had such a lovely day!
dinner at kakilimas | the best spot by the beach to see the sunset, just a few minutes from our villa! sparkling water all round…
our pool | swimming provides hours of endless fun no matter how bad the weather is!
our car window | this is mason, traveling in true bali style! we worried he would never want to go home to his car seat after hearing him screaming with joy out the car window! oh the fun one can have with the wind in their hair and the rain on their face!
pan pacific, nirwana | one of audreys most favourite places to eat is the poolside restaurant at the pan pacific! the reason… there is a super fun water slide and they are so easy going so they welcome byo pool floats which makes it way more fun!
sick day | we woke up one morning and a few of us were terribly sick… we were thinking bali belly but as the days passed and every day another person got sick we realised it was a virus… very frustrating indeed because it took a good part of the week for everyone to get sick and then get over it! bali is not a bad place to be when you are sick, especially when its raining… we got loads of dvds and stocked up on young coconuts and lime ~ yum!
tanya and the very hungry caterpillar | if you follow me on instagram you probably know how much i adore this little one… tanya is my cleaners daughter and she potters around here giggling at my efforts to talk bahasa, singing little songs… she is just so content! she is the sweetest. girl. ever!
so that was how our year started! with bali being extremely wet, then 6 out of 8 people getting sick… we had to cancel lots of plans to explore. we spent lots of time at the villa and often only ventured out to a near by places to eat and the kids spent time swimming. our poor guests… not exactly how they imagined their bali holiday but i promise the weather eventually got better! stop by next friday for the second instalment!
as i mentioned, im doing this project with kirsty and here is a moment from her week… please pop over to kirsty’s blog to see what life in abu dhabi looks like. her photos are always lovely! rowe x
